AICHM Health Units in 2003

Since the production of KECHNs in the mid '80s there has been an explosion in the number of AICHM Health Units which have opened.  At present AICHM has 5 Hospitals i.e. Githumu (24 beds), Kapsowar (90 beds), Kijabe (220 beds), Litein (120 beds and building a new hospital) & Bethany CCC (35 beds). And approximately 45 Rural Health Units, including Health Centres, Sub- Health Centres and Dispensaries.  Presently a number of other AIC Churches are applying to have Rural Health Units opened at their locations.

Kijabe Hospital is found 45km from Nairobi and serves as a major referral hospital. It currently serves an average of 7,000 outpatients and about 1,100 inpatients monthly. It handles about 450 surgical cases monthly. In addition to this, its HIV/AIDS programme has in care about 2,000 people living with AIDS. The hospital oversees Marira, Maela, and Karagita Clinics, which are recently established rural units that emerged out of its outreach services. AIC CURE International children’s hospital (AIC CURE) is a Faith-Based not-for-Profit Hospital that was built as a collaborative effort between CURE International and Africa Inland Church (AIC) in order to serve both the medical and spiritual needs of children in Kenya. It is a 30-bed specialty hospital that provides surgical treatment to children with physical disabilities. Since its inception in 1998, over 20,000 surgical procedures have been performed. The Hospital runs an Orthopedic Workshop that provides various orthopedic aids to needy patients. AIC CURE offers orthopedic, plastic and ENT surgery to children 18 years and younger. Children with clubfoot, polio, effects of tuberculosis on the spine, congenital conditions such as scoliosis and ontogenesis imperfect and burn contractures are also treated at AIC CURE. Litein Hospital in Bureti District was started in 1924 and was upgraded to hospital status in 1990. It currently serves monthly over 3,460 outpatients and about 450 inpatients. It has about 95 surgical cases monthly. Litein Hospital supervises Eldama Ravine Health Center and Gietai, Baration, Nyabikomu, Sochol, Nyakach, Nyachoochogo, and Mochongoi Dispensaries. Litein AIC Hospital is in the grade of a district hospital.

 

Kapsowar Hospital, located in Marakwet District, was started in 1933. It receives, monthly, about 1,140 outpatient visits and has about 400 inpatients. It handles about 65 surgical cases in a month. The hospital oversees Nalatat and Liter Dispensaries.

 

Githumu Hospital located in Maragua District, started as a rural health centre in the 1930s. It serves about 1,500 outpatients monthly and about 125 inpatients with its 34-bed capacity. The hospital has a HIV/AIDS Programme operated with the support of the government-mediated Global Fund. Githumu Hospital supervises Mununga Dispensary. The hospital is the largest health unit in the district.
